China’s commercial vehicle market experienced steady growth in the first half of 2025. By the end of June, total sales reached 2.12 million units, up 3% compared to the same period last year, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).

Strong Recovery in June with 369,000 Units Sold

In June alone, 369,000 commercial vehicles were sold across China. This is a 10% increase from May and a 9% rise year-on-year, marking a solid rebound after a slight drop in May. This June ranked second-highest for monthly sales in the past five years, only behind June 2021.

Top 10 Brands Account for 76% of the Market

A total of 11 brands sold over 10,000 units in June. Foton remained the top seller for the sixth month in a row with 52,300 units, taking 14.17% of the market.

Following Foton were Dongfeng (9.80%), Changan (9.30%), and Sinotruk (9.23%). FAW Jiefang and JMC also made it into the top six with 7.03% and 6.51% market share respectively.

Other brands in the top 10 included SHACMAN, SAIC-GM-Wuling, JAC, and Maxus. The difference in sales between close competitors was very small. For example, Changan and Sinotruk were less than 300 units apart, showing intense competition.

Maxus re-entered the top 10 in June, jumping from 11th place in May. FAW Jiefang moved up four spots to 5th. Dongfeng and Changan each climbed one rank. JMC, SHACMAN, and Wuling maintained their previous positions.

Foton, Sinotruk, and Dongfeng Lead in H1 Total Sales

From January to June 2025, total commercial vehicle sales hit 2.12 million units, growing 3% year-on-year. Foton led with 323,700 units sold. Sinotruk and Dongfeng followed, with 212,400 and 204,600 units respectively.

Other brands selling over 100,000 units during the first half included Changan (196,300), FAW Jiefang (137,600), JAC (120,900), JMC (115,300), Wuling (109,200), and SHACMAN (100,300). Great Wall ranked 10th with 96,200 units sold.

Market Share and Rankings Shifting Slightly

The top 10 brands accounted for 76.19% of total market share. Foton had the largest share at 15.26%, followed by Sinotruk at 10.01%, Dongfeng at 9.64%, and Changan at 9.25%. Compared to last year, Foton and Sinotruk showed the biggest gains in market share, up 0.82 and 0.77 percentage points respectively.

Although the top 10 brands remained the same as the end of last year, the rankings shifted. Sinotruk moved up two places to take 2nd position. SHACMAN also climbed one spot to 9th. Foton, FAW Jiefang, JAC, JMC, and Wuling held their positions.

In the first half of 2025, the market showed an up-and-down trend but still ended with positive growth. Competition among top brands was very close. For example, the market share gap between Dongfeng and Sinotruk, or between JMC and Wuling, was less than 0.5 percentage points. In June, SHACMAN overtook Great Wall. Whether there will be more changes in July remains to be seen.
