BAIC Foton's 2000th Heavy Truck Roll off in Thailand
March 10,2025
Bangkok, Thailand — On March 9, BAIC Foton reached a significant milestone with the production of its 2,000th heavy-duty truck at its plant in Thailand. The occasion was marked with a delivery ceremony for key customers, emphasizing the company’s strong growth in the Thai market and its expanding global footprint.
This achievement underscores BAIC Foton's ongoing commitment to its international strategy, reflecting the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence across global markets. Through robust local manufacturing and service capabilities, BAIC Foton has reinforced its position in Southeast Asia, setting the stage for further expansion in alignment with the Belt and Road Initiative.
The ceremony was attended by senior executives, including Zhang Jianyong, Party Secretary and Chairman of BAIC Group; Lu Zhenghua, Executive Deputy General Manager of BAIC Foton; Li Shaozhu, Senior Vice Chairman of Chia Tai Group; Xie Jieren, Vice Chairman of Chia Tai Industrial, alongside key customers and media representatives. In his address, Lu Zhenghua highlighted that the production of the 2,000th truck, along with the delivery of the 128th heavy-duty truck to Yifan Shipping, marks a crucial step forward in BAIC Foton’s global strategy and underscores the strong industrial cooperation between China and Thailand.
Since entering the Thai market in 2015, BAIC Foton has quickly established a full industry chain—from manufacturing to sales—in just two years. In 2019, BAIC Foton formed a joint venture with Chia Tai Group, a move that allowed the company to swiftly gain a foothold in Thailand’s commercial vehicle sector, with aspirations to reach a top-three position. By November 2024, the Thai plant was fully operational, and the first heavy-duty truck rolled off the production line. Just months later, the company celebrated the production of its 2,000th truck, solidifying its market presence in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
Foton’s Thai plant is set to become one of its key global manufacturing hubs, especially for the Asia-Pacific region. Spanning approximately 37,000 square meters with an annual production capacity of 3,000 vehicles, the plant is certified by TISI, TAI, and the DLT for vehicle registration. It is equipped to produce a wide range of commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty, medium-duty, light-duty trucks, buses, and new energy vehicles, positioning it as a leader in China’s commercial vehicle production in Thailand. With the Thai government actively promoting environmental protection and vehicle electrification, BAIC Foton plans to introduce 12 new models in 2025, covering new energy, heavy-duty, and light-duty trucks, to provide sustainable solutions for the Thai and Asia-Pacific markets.
At the ceremony, BAIC Foton handed over the keys to the 128th automatic heavy-duty truck to a key customer in Thailand. These trucks, equipped with Foton Cummins powertrains, are widely adopted by industries such as tire manufacturing and electrical companies for container transport. Known for their ease of handling, strong performance, and reliability, these trucks have become a preferred choice. To ensure customer satisfaction, BAIC Foton offers 24/7 service to deliver a seamless experience.
Looking forward, BAIC Foton’s international expansion extends beyond individual product offerings. The company is focused on integrating the entire industrial chain, enhancing technical standards, and improving ecosystem efficiency. In addition to its success in Thailand, BAIC Foton is expanding into other Asia-Pacific markets, including Indonesia and Vietnam, and is advancing its growth in the Americas, with a local manufacturing project in Brazil.
With 22 local KD factories globally, BAIC Foton has significantly bolstered its international competitiveness while contributing positively to local economies and employment.
From the production of its first truck to the 2,000th, BAIC Foton has established a strong foundation in the Thai market, driven by technological innovation and its localization strategy. The company has become a leading force for Chinese commercial vehicles in Thailand and continues to play a pivotal role in advancing BAIC Foton’s global strategy.
Moving forward, BAIC Foton will focus on further increasing its sales in Thailand, enhancing its distribution network, and promoting the electrification and intelligent development of commercial vehicles. With the dual opportunities presented by the Belt and Road Initiative and the global energy transition, BAIC Foton’s approach is setting a new benchmark for the global development of China’s commercial vehicle industry, driven by technology and ecosystem collaboration.
