Chery Commercial Vehicles and Cummins Announce Strategic Partnership

June 04,2025

Chery Commercial Vehicles and Cummins (China) Investment Co. Ltd. announced a strategic partnership on May 29, 2025, coinciding with the launch of Chery’s new “Phoenix Series” super heavy trucks and the delivery of 100 units at an event in Wuhu, Anhui Province.

The partnership will focus on joint development of multi-energy powertrains, smart vehicle technologies, and global market expansion. The agreement was signed by Zhu Hong, vice general manager of Chery Commercial Vehicles, and Ma Ji, general manager of marketing and sales at Cummins China Engine Business. The signing was witnessed by senior executives from both companies, including Stephen Saxby, vice president and chief technology officer of Cummins China.

The “Phoenix Series” trucks feature Cummins’ latest power systems and are offered in natural gas and diesel variants. The natural gas model, called “Golden Phoenix,” is equipped with the Cummins 15N FE engine, an Eaton-Cummins automated manual transmission and an advanced aftertreatment system. It delivers up to 630 horsepower and includes CBM3.0 smart control technology aimed at improving fuel efficiency.

The diesel version, named “Original Phoenix,” uses the Cummins M13 engine, achieving a minimum fuel consumption of 172 grams per kilowatt-hour. This reduces carbon emissions while maintaining performance.

Chery Commercial Vehicles provides a range of transport solutions across light trucks, heavy trucks, and buses. Cummins has operated in China for more than 50 years, offering technologies spanning from low-carbon to zero-carbon powertrains.

The companies said the partnership combines their strengths to develop more efficient, greener, and smarter logistics solutions. They plan to deepen collaboration and address challenges related to energy transition and digitalization in the commercial vehicle industry, with the goal of advancing toward a zero-carbon future.
