Chinese automaker BYD has emerged as the market leader in Italy’s electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) segment, holding a 19.8% share from January to April 2024 and peaking at 23.8% in January, according to company data.

The growth is driven by BYD’s focus on advanced technology and sustainable mobility. Its E-VALI and ETM6 models, equipped with the company’s proprietary Blade Battery, offer enhanced safety, extended driving range and lower energy consumption—factors increasingly important as Italy enforces stricter emissions regulations.

To support adoption, BYD has partnered with a leasing firm under BNP Paribas, providing flexible financing and rental options to lower the barrier to entry for fleet customers. In April 2024, 1.4% of its sales in Italy came through leasing, with the share more than doubling compared to the same period last year.

Once seen primarily as a symbol of Chinese manufacturing, BYD is now establishing itself as a reliable brand in Italy’s logistics sector. Its expanding commercial and passenger vehicle lineup reflects a broader commitment to accelerating the transition to cleaner transportation.

The company says it aims to further grow its international presence by delivering efficient, zero-emission solutions for global logistics and urban mobility.
