The vehicles rolled off the production line at the company’s plant in Thailand before being shipped to Indonesia via containerized sea freight, indicating that the model has entered mass production and is ready for overseas delivery.

The move reflects Foton’s push to localize production while expanding sales across Southeast Asia, particularly in right-hand-drive markets within the ASEAN region.

The light truck model, developed for Southeast Asian markets, is designed to handle varied road conditions and transport needs, with a focus on efficiency, durability and maneuverability, according to the company.

The Thailand facility serves as one of Foton’s key manufacturing bases in ASEAN, supporting both local production and exports. The plant spans approximately 37,000 square meters and has an annual production capacity of 3,000 units per shift. It has obtained local certifications, including TISI, TAI localization approval and registration clearance from Thailand’s Department of Land Transport (DLT).

The site is equipped with assembly lines, testing and inspection facilities, and logistics storage areas, and operates under a semi-knocked-down (SKD) production model. It is designed to produce a range of commercial vehicles, including heavy-, medium- and light-duty trucks, buses and new energy vehicles.

Foton said the export underscores its efforts to enhance competitiveness through localized manufacturing while expanding its footprint in regional markets. The company is also developing supporting business operations, including after-sales services, leasing, connected vehicle systems and export logistics.

Thailand has been promoting environmental targets and vehicle electrification in recent years. Against this backdrop, Foton plans to introduce additional products, including new energy vehicles, to support cleaner transport solutions in Thailand and across Southeast Asia.
