Ethiopian PM Highlights XCMG Electric Truck

May 14,2026

Chinese machinery and commercial vehicle manufacturer XCMG has gained fresh attention in Ethiopia after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed publicly praised one of the company’s electric light trucks during the “Made in Ethiopia” Expo, underscoring the country’s growing interest in low-emission transportation solutions.

The Ethiopian prime minister shared a photo of the vehicle on social media following his visit to the XCMG exhibition stand, where government officials met with company representatives to learn more about the manufacturer’s new energy commercial vehicle technologies.

During the visit, XCMG introduced the truck’s core features, including fast-charging capability, extended driving range, operational safety, and lower running costs — factors that are becoming increasingly important as Ethiopia looks to modernize its transport sector while reducing carbon emissions.

Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia is in urgent need of affordable zero-emission transport solutions to support sustainable economic growth and improve the efficiency of urban logistics networks.

The attention around XCMG’s electric truck comes as Ethiopia pushes forward with broader green development policies aimed at lowering emissions in transportation and encouraging cleaner mobility technologies.

For XCMG, the growing visibility in Ethiopia reflects years of investment and cooperation across East Africa. The company has long been involved in infrastructure construction, industrial development, and construction equipment projects throughout Ethiopia and other African markets, helping establish a solid foundation for its expanding business presence in the region.

Industry observers say the latest showcase also highlights how cooperation between Chinese manufacturers and African markets is gradually shifting beyond traditional infrastructure projects toward new energy and sustainable transport sectors.

To strengthen its local operations, XCMG has been expanding its support network in Ethiopia through investments in charging infrastructure, spare parts supply systems, technical support teams, and training programs designed to improve the long-term operation of electric commercial vehicles.

As African countries increasingly prioritize green growth and low-carbon transportation, XCMG is positioning its electric commercial vehicle portfolio to support the region’s transition toward more sustainable urban logistics and mobility solutions.
