120 Autonomous Hybrid Mining Trucks Deployed at Xinjiang Coal Mine

June 25,2026

A fleet of 120 autonomous hybrid mining trucks equipped with Yuchai's YCK16 engine and 400kW flywheel range-extender system is being delivered to a coal mining operation in Xinjiang, China. The vehicles will enter service in phases as part of the mine's ongoing adoption of autonomous and low-emission transportation technologies.

Developed by Lingong Heavy Machinery (LGMG), the trucks combine hybrid powertrain technology with L4 autonomous driving capability. Each vehicle is powered by a 775-hp Yuchai YCK16 engine paired with a 400kW flywheel range-extender system, providing the performance required for heavy-duty haulage operations.

The trucks have been specifically engineered for challenging open-pit mining environments characterized by heavy payloads, high dust levels and continuous 24-hour operations. According to the project data, the hybrid system reduces overall energy consumption by approximately 30% compared with conventional diesel-powered mining trucks, helping lower fuel consumption and emissions.

In addition to improved efficiency, the flywheel range-extender system is designed to minimize maintenance requirements. Its low failure rate and extended service intervals are expected to reduce equipment downtime and operating costs in high-utilization mining applications.

Upon deployment, the fleet will be integrated into TAGE Idriver's "Kuanggu" autonomous haulage system. Built on a vehicle-road-cloud collaborative architecture, the platform enables autonomous loading, hauling, obstacle avoidance and dynamic route planning, supporting fully coordinated mine transportation operations.

The new vehicles will operate alongside the mine's existing autonomous equipment and be managed through a unified dispatching system. The expanded fleet is expected to increase transportation capacity while reducing operational risks associated with manual driving.

The delivery represents one of the larger deployments of hybrid autonomous mining trucks in China and highlights the growing adoption of intelligent and lower-carbon transportation solutions in large-scale open-pit mining operations.
