SAIC Hongyan Exports 1,000 Electric Heavy Trucks to Thailand

July 02,2026

SAIC Hongyan has signed an agreement to supply 1,000 battery-electric heavy-duty trucks to a major port logistics operator in Thailand. The first batch of vehicles has already been shipped from China, with deliveries set to continue in phases.

The order represents one of SAIC Hongyan's largest overseas new energy truck projects to date and reflects growing demand for electric heavy-duty vehicles in Southeast Asia's logistics sector.

Designed for Port Logistics

Thailand is one of Southeast Asia's busiest logistics hubs, where container handling and short-haul port transport generate strong demand for heavy-duty trucks. As the country continues to promote low-emission transport, electric trucks are becoming an increasingly attractive option for port operators.

According to SAIC Hongyan, the customer selected its third-generation battery-electric heavy truck after a series of operational trials and long-term reliability testing. The evaluation focused on driving range, charging efficiency, payload capability, vehicle reliability, and operating costs.

Third-Generation Electric Heavy Truck

The vehicles are built on SAIC Hongyan's self-developed YanLink AILink electric platform and are equipped with customized CATL battery packs.

The trucks support dual-gun DC fast charging to reduce charging time and improve fleet utilization. Powered by a 530 kW electric drive system, they are designed for frequent short-distance container transport in port environments. Under typical operating conditions, energy consumption is reduced by more than 12%, helping lower operating costs.

To improve durability, the trucks combine a lightweight structure with high payload capacity. High- and low-voltage electrical systems meet IP6K9K and IP68 protection standards, allowing the vehicles to operate in hot and humid conditions. The platform has also completed one million kilometers of durability testing.

The trucks include remote monitoring for the battery, motor, and electronic control systems, allowing fleet operators to track vehicle status, energy consumption, mileage, and maintenance alerts. SAIC Hongyan has also established local parts supply and after-sales support in Thailand.

Built on a modular platform, the vehicles can be adapted for different applications, including port tractors and terminal transport vehicles, while supporting integrated charging and fleet service solutions.

Expanding in Southeast Asia

Deliveries of the 1,000 trucks will continue over the coming months.

SAIC Hongyan said Southeast Asia remains a key market for its new energy commercial vehicle business. The company plans to continue developing its third-generation electric heavy truck and further optimize the vehicle for the region's hot climate, heavy rainfall, and demanding operating conditions.

The company also plans to expand its local charging infrastructure, after-sales network, and spare parts support to serve customers in the logistics, port, and mining sectors.

SAIC Hongyan currently exports commercial vehicles to more than 40 countries and regions. The Thailand project is expected to strengthen the company's presence in Southeast Asia as demand for electric heavy-duty trucks continues to grow.
