Dongfeng Cummins has delivered the first 56 waste compactor trucks powered by its D6.7N natural gas engine to LOGA, a leading waste management company in Brazil.

The delivery marks an important step in expanding natural gas power applications in Brazil’s urban sanitation sector and supporting cleaner waste collection operations.

The vehicles are Volkswagen Constellation 26.280 waste compactor trucks, Volkswagen’s first commercial model equipped with renewable natural gas technology. They will be used for waste collection and transportation in the São Paulo region, helping local sanitation fleets reduce emissions and improve sustainability.

D6.7N Proven Through Long-Term Field Testing

Since the second half of 2025, vehicles equipped with the Dongfeng Cummins D6.7N gas engine have undergone long-term field testing in Brazil.

After comprehensive evaluations of power performance, fuel efficiency, and reliability, LOGA selected the D6.7N-powered vehicles for fleet expansion.

Volkswagen also plans to introduce similar clean energy sanitation vehicles in more Brazilian cities, including Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba, further expanding its green sanitation fleet.

As one of São Paulo’s major sanitation operators, LOGA is actively accelerating the low-carbon transformation of its fleet.

André Mela, Operations Director of LOGA, said the purchase represents another step forward in the company’s sustainability strategy. In future fleet upgrades, LOGA will prioritize renewable natural gas and electric vehicles to improve operational efficiency while reducing environmental impact.

Global Collaboration Drives Project Delivery

The successful delivery was achieved through close cooperation among teams in China and Brazil.

In November 2024, Dongfeng Cummins launched the project and formed a joint development team with Cummins China, Cummins Brazil, and Volkswagen Brazil.

The teams worked together on engine adaptation, component development, and production optimization for the D6.7N gas engine.

During the project, the team overcame challenges including cross-border coordination, customized requirements, manufacturing quality control, and supply chain management.

Through efficient project management and close cooperation across development, production, and delivery, the team successfully completed the delivery of 160 engines.

The project opened a new path for Dongfeng Cummins gas engines in Volkswagen’s premium commercial vehicle applications in Brazil, while also building valuable experience in global cooperation and large-scale delivery.

Designed for Urban Sanitation Operations

The Dongfeng Cummins D6.7N gas engine has gained customer recognition for its performance in demanding urban sanitation applications.

According to the vehicle manufacturer, the power system delivers performance comparable to diesel engines and meets the needs of waste collection vehicles, including frequent stop-and-go driving and heavy-load operations.

Strong Power for Frequent Stop-and-Go Conditions

The D6.7N engine delivers a maximum output of 280 PS and peak torque of 1,100 N·m.

With strong low-speed torque, the engine provides quick response during starting, acceleration, and uphill driving, making it well suited for urban waste collection routes.

Improved Efficiency and Lower Operating Costs

With optimized gas injection technology and air-fuel ratio control, the engine improves thermal efficiency by 5% and helps reduce fuel consumption.

Its lightweight design and long-range vehicle solutions further lower operating costs throughout the vehicle lifecycle.

Reliable Performance for Heavy-Duty Operations

The D6.7N engine has completed more than 30,000 hours of bench durability testing, demonstrating its ability to handle intensive and long-duration sanitation operations while reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Low Noise for Urban Environments

With optimized NVH performance, the engine’s idle noise is reduced to 71.6 dBA.

This helps minimize noise disturbance during waste collection in densely populated urban areas.

Smart Fleet Management

Equipped with the Cummins intelligent remote management system, the engine supports real-time monitoring, fault alerts, and data analysis, helping fleet operators improve efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Expanding Global Clean Energy Power Solutions

Leveraging Cummins’ global network covering more than 190 countries and regions, Dongfeng Cummins continues to expand its international business and deliver cleaner power solutions worldwide.
