The GALAXUS R9 is BAIC FOTON’s flagship heavy-duty truck for overseas markets. Its launch in Peru adds a new model to the company’s lineup in Latin America’s commercial vehicle market.

The first GALAXUS R9 trucks are expected to enter service in Peru soon.

Developed for Long-Haul Transport

Peru is expanding key logistics corridors, while demand for long-distance road transport continues to grow. The changes are driving demand for heavy-duty trucks with better fuel efficiency, safety and driver comfort.

The GALAXUS R9 was developed with these requirements in mind.

The truck is based on BAIC FOTON’s global R&D system and a new intelligent vehicle architecture. For overseas markets, the company has carried out 28 dedicated R&D programs and made changes based on the operating conditions of different regions.

For driver comfort, the GALAXUS R9 is equipped with premium GRAMMER driver and co-driver seats and a 130-mm-thick sleeper berth.

It also features a 40-liter pull-out refrigerator, while the dashboard provides storage space for documents and a dedicated coin compartment.

An upgraded digital rearview mirror provides a clearer rear view and supports automatic adjustment.

The cab uses three-step entry steps with anti-slip surfaces. The steps also include space for storing shoes.

More Than 90 In-House Technologies

The GALAXUS R9 incorporates more than 90 core technologies developed by BAIC FOTON.

It uses a 100Mbps Ethernet architecture to increase data transmission speeds across the vehicle and provide a basis for future feature expansion.

The modular architecture allows different vehicle versions to be developed more quickly for overseas markets.

The truck also supports full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) updates, allowing vehicle functions and performance to be updated remotely.

The overseas version of the GALAXUS R9 is equipped with an L2+ intelligent driving system covering a range of driving scenarios.

The system has completed 2 million km of real-road testing and training based on 500,000 use cases. It offers more than 28 intelligent driving functions.

These include highway navigation assistance, traffic-jam assistance, automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring.

The systems are designed to reduce driver fatigue during long-distance driving and improve road safety.

Connected Vehicle Platform Covers Seven Regions

BAIC FOTON has also developed a dedicated connected vehicle platform for its overseas markets.

The platform consists of one central system and six self-built data centers. It covers seven key regions and uses localized data systems to meet local data compliance requirements.

The platform supports real-time vehicle monitoring, predictive diagnostics and full-vehicle OTA updates.

These functions can help identify potential faults at an early stage and reduce vehicle downtime.

The platform will also support fleet operations and vehicle management in overseas markets.

Peru Becomes FOTON’s Largest Overseas Heavy-Truck Market

Speaking at the launch, Wu Zongtian said the arrival of the GALAXUS R9 in Peru is an important step in BAIC FOTON’s expansion into the high-end heavy-duty truck market in Latin America.

BAIC FOTON said it will continue to develop new-energy and intelligent technologies, expand its international business and introduce more high-end products.

The company also plans to adapt its products and services to the transport needs of different regions and continue working with local partners to strengthen after-sales support.

In 2026, BAIC FOTON ranked first among Chinese heavy-duty truck brands in Peru in both sales and market share.

The company also ranked first in Peru’s overall heavy-duty truck market by market share, supported by its local partners.

Peru is now BAIC FOTON’s largest overseas market for its global heavy-duty truck business.

Global Expedition Begins in Peru

The Peru launch also marked the start of the FOTON GALAXUS Global Expedition in the Americas.

Following Wu Zongtian’s speech, the event featured a promotional video and a flag handover ceremony for the Peru leg of the expedition.

Li Xiangdong, executive general manager of the Heavy-Duty Truck Business at FOTON International, presented the expedition flag to a representative of a local core partner.

The partner representative then handed the flag to a representative of the expedition fleet, officially starting the tour.

The FOTON GALAXUS Global Expedition will feature the GALAXUS R9 and visit multiple countries across the Americas, Asia-Pacific and Africa.

The tour will include local roadshows, customer vehicle demonstrations and activities with local partners. It will also allow BAIC FOTON to gather feedback on transport and logistics needs in different markets.

Peru was selected as the first stop in the Americas following the strong performance of BAIC FOTON’s heavy-duty truck business in the country.

Expanding Its Global Heavy-Truck Business

Following the Peru launch, BAIC FOTON plans to expand its products and services further across the Americas.

The FOTON GALAXUS Global Expedition will continue from Peru to other overseas markets.

The company plans to use its flagship products, local operations and partner network to expand its global heavy-duty truck business and strengthen its presence in international markets.
