BYD Rolls Out Its 150,000th New Energy Commercial Vehicle
October 10,2026
Over the past 18 years, BYD has expanded its commercial vehicle business from early technology development to large-scale use across different transport applications. The latest milestone also highlights the company’s growing focus on trucks, particularly electric heavy-duty trucks for long-distance transport.
From Electric Buses to a Wider Range of Commercial Vehicles
In the early days of new energy commercial vehicles, concerns about driving range, cost and reliability limited their adoption. BYD started with electric city buses and gradually expanded the market through technology development and real-world operations.

In 2012, BYD began developing trucks and extended its research, manufacturing and service capabilities into the logistics sector. Its product range now covers both battery-electric and hybrid vehicles, as well as light-duty and heavy-duty trucks.
In 2025, BYD rolled out its 10,000th T5 light truck and launched the T4 mini truck globally. These models expanded its presence in applications such as urban delivery and cold-chain transport.
Targeting Long-Distance Transport with Electric Heavy-Duty Trucks
Long-distance freight transport requires trucks to travel long distances and operate under demanding conditions. Fast charging, strong power and reliable performance are therefore essential.
The Q3 all-electric tractor truck is a key model in BYD’s push into this market. It uses BYD’s in-house developed battery, motor and electronic control technologies, along with a Blade Battery designed for commercial vehicles. Its motor delivers a peak power of 600 kW, and the truck supports dual-gun fast charging.
These features are designed to meet the power and charging needs of heavy-duty transport. The fact that the Q3 became BYD’s 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle also highlights the company’s efforts to expand electric trucks into long-distance freight operations.
Expanding Overseas from Electric Buses to Trucks
BYD’s commercial vehicles are now sold in more than 70 countries and regions. Its electric buses have supported the shift toward electric public transport worldwide, and its new energy buses have ranked first in annual exports for three consecutive years.
The company is now placing greater emphasis on trucks as it expands overseas.
At this year’s IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, BYD presented an integrated zero-carbon logistics solution covering vehicles, charging infrastructure, intelligent fleet management and full-lifecycle maintenance.

Rather than supplying vehicles alone, BYD aims to provide a complete set of services to help customers reduce operating costs and carbon emissions while improving efficiency.
Strengthening Technology, Production and Global Service
Going forward, BYD plans to improve coordination across research and development, supply chains and manufacturing to support deliveries worldwide. It will also strengthen product quality and after-sales service to help customers keep their vehicles running efficiently.
The company will continue to build on its in-house battery, motor and electronic control technologies, as well as its vertically integrated business model, to support the growth of its truck business.
The rollout of its 150,000th new energy commercial vehicle marks a new stage in BYD’s development. The company plans to further expand in the long-distance heavy-duty truck market and use its technology and supply chain capabilities to support cleaner freight transport worldwide.
