SuperPanther Unveils Embodied AI Strategy for Heavy Trucks at IAA 2026, Deepens Cooperation with DHL

September 14,2026

SuperPanther has unveiled its embodied AI strategy for heavy-duty trucks at IAA Transportation 2026, along with its Truck Brain technology roadmap. The company also shared updates on its European business, next-generation electric truck technologies, and cooperation with DHL Group.

SuperPanther's eTopas 600, its first production model for Europe, has completed its first customer deliveries. The trucks are now in daily operation in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic, with further deliveries underway.

Through local production with Austria's Steyr Automotive, SuperPanther has become the first Chinese truck company to produce new-energy heavy-duty trucks locally in Europe and put them into daily customer operations across multiple countries.

From Automated Driving to Intelligent Transport Tasks

SuperPanther aims to move truck intelligence beyond controlling how a vehicle drives toward understanding and carrying out transport tasks. Its Truck Brain system is designed to support this shift.

Traditional end-to-end autonomous driving systems use sensor data to generate driving actions such as steering, braking and lane changes. Truck Brain adds a higher level of reasoning to help trucks handle complex and unexpected situations.

Using a world model, Truck Brain can interpret unusual situations, predict changes in the environment and provide goals and strategies to the real-time driving system. This allows the system to assess different options before choosing how to respond.

The real-time driving system remains responsible for vehicle control. Higher-level decisions from Truck Brain must also pass through a coordination and safety layer before they can be carried out.

Because commercial trucks cannot always rely on a cloud connection, SuperPanther plans to run Truck Brain's core functions directly on the vehicle. Its first engineering target is a specialized, optimized 7-billion-parameter model designed for a next-generation onboard computing platform with around 1,000 TOPS of computing power.

SuperPanther says model size alone does not determine performance. Vehicle knowledge, operational data and real-world transport experience are also important.

The company plans to develop the technology in three stages. First, onboard AI agents will enhance L2+ driver assistance. Next, SuperPanther will work toward Truck Brain-enhanced L4 autonomous driving within defined operating conditions and an established operational design domain. In the longer term, the system will expand beyond driving to cover energy management, route planning and logistics processes, with the goal of handling complete freight transport tasks.

SuperPanther plans to introduce L2+ highway driving assistance in 2027. Planned functions include automatic lane changes, collision avoidance within the lane and ramp navigation. Their launch will depend on technical validation, vehicle certification and local regulations.

SuperPanther and DHL Explore Real-World Logistics Applications

At IAA Transportation 2026, SuperPanther and DHL Group signed a memorandum of understanding to explore potential cooperation in truck automation and embodied AI.

The two companies plan to evaluate intelligent and automated electric trucks in real-world operating environments, using actual logistics workflows, testing requirements and operational data. The findings will help identify future technology development needs.

Dr. Antje Huber, Head of Strategy, Marketing and Office at DHL Freight, said autonomous driving could make road freight safer, more efficient and more sustainable.

DHL Freight has already tested autonomous vehicles for yard logistics in controlled environments. However, the regulatory framework for deploying these technologies on public roads in Germany still needs to be clarified.

Huber also noted that the first SuperPanther truck to enter series production in Europe is already operating within DHL Freight's fleet. The new agreement will allow the two companies to explore further opportunities for autonomous driving in road freight.

The companies are currently discussing specific projects, locations, vehicle arrangements and timelines.

SuperPanther Founder and CEO Liu Chao said autonomous driving is only the first step. True task intelligence must learn from real transport operations. Through its cooperation with DHL, SuperPanther aims to identify the real-world applications and development requirements for Truck Brain as a core technology for fully autonomous trucks and intelligent transport tasks. The two companies will also assess the measurable value the technology could deliver.

Local Production in Europe and Operations Across Six Countries

The eTopas 600 has received EU Whole Vehicle Type Approval (WVTA) and is produced in Austria in cooperation with Steyr Automotive.

The truck features a 621 kWh battery and a range of up to approximately 560 km. Under representative operating conditions, its energy consumption is around 0.94 kWh/km.

It supports dual-gun CCS charging, with a combined charging power of up to approximately 660 kW under suitable conditions. Its charging system architecture is also designed to support future megawatt-level charging technology. Actual range and energy consumption depend on vehicle configuration, payload, route and operating conditions.

As the eTopas 600 enters daily operation across Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic, SuperPanther is working with Alltrucks and other partners to expand its European service, diagnostics, spare parts and software support network.

The company plans to deliver around 100 trucks by the end of 2026 and a total of 1,000 trucks to European customers by the end of 2027.

Dr. Michael Ruf, President of SuperPanther Europe, said the eTopas 600 shows that the company's technology has moved beyond engineering development into series production in Europe and real-world customer operations.

For fleet operators, he said, the key question is not how many new technologies a truck uses, but whether the complete system delivers the required range, better energy and charging efficiency, reliable operations and sustainable business returns.

Next-Generation Electric Axle and High-Voltage Controller

At the show, SuperPanther also presented its next-generation EverDrive electric drive axle and high-voltage domain controller, both designed for future vehicle platforms.

The EverDrive axle delivers a continuous torque of 43,000 Nm and continuous power of 500 kW. It integrates an intelligent four-speed reduction gearbox, active lubrication and full-coverage oil cooling. Compared with the previous generation, it is 130 kg lighter and 15% smaller in volume.

The new high-voltage domain controller integrates power electronics, energy distribution and control functions. Compared with the existing solution, it reduces weight by more than 50 kg and cuts the required installation space by about one-third.

Both technologies are planned for use in SuperPanther's next-generation products to improve energy efficiency and system integration.

Building Embodied AI Into the Truck From the Start

SuperPanther describes its technology approach through three principles: Born Electric, Born Intelligent and Born Global. The company integrates electrification, software, data and intelligent systems from the beginning of vehicle development, combining German engineering expertise with local production and service capabilities in Europe.

This vehicle-level approach allows SuperPanther to develop both the physical truck and its intelligent systems together.

On the hardware side, electric drive systems, high-voltage systems, energy management, drive-by-wire chassis technology and vehicle controls provide the physical foundation for embodied AI to perceive its environment and take action.

On the software side, Truck Brain works with the real-time driving system and the coordination and safety layer to turn vehicle knowledge, environmental understanding and transport-task reasoning into safe, verifiable actions.

SuperPanther is also using the local production, ongoing deliveries and daily operation of the eTopas 600 in Europe to collect real-world vehicle data, logistics scenarios and transport experience. These insights will feed back into future product and intelligent system development.

By combining vehicle architecture, onboard intelligence, real-world operations and data feedback, the company aims to build a technology platform that can continuously improve. SuperPanther sees this as a key advantage in developing embodied AI for heavy-duty trucks.

Moving Toward Trucks That Can Handle Complete Transport Tasks

As the eTopas 600 expands across Europe, SuperPanther is using real-world electric truck operations to support the development of next-generation intelligent systems.

Building on existing vehicle control and autonomous driving technologies, the company aims to help trucks better understand transport tasks, make decisions and carry them out.

Through local production in Europe, growing customer operations and cooperation with logistics companies such as DHL, SuperPanther aims to establish a foundation for the next generation of embodied AI heavy-duty trucks.
