CHANGAN HUNTER K70 Extended-Range Pickup Goes on Sale in China

CHANGAN introduced extended-range technology to the pickup market with the HUNTER in 2024. The technology allows the vehicle to drive on electric power while using an engine-based range extender to support longer trips. This reduces reliance on charging stations, especially when traveling in mountainous areas or remote locations.
The HUNTER K70 is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged Blue Core extended-range system and dual electric motors. It delivers a combined maximum output of 260 kW and peak torque of 559 N·m. Its 43.47 kWh CATL battery provides an NEDC electric driving range of 150 km and an NEDC combined range of 897 km. The vehicle supports 2C fast charging, taking 16 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%.
For off-road driving, the HUNTER K70 has an approach angle of 38 degrees, a departure angle of 28 degrees, minimum ground clearance of 245 mm and a maximum wading depth of 650 mm. It comes with LT285/70 R17 all-terrain tires, dual-motor four-wheel drive and an all-terrain locking system. These features are designed to help the vehicle handle sand, mud, riverbeds and mountain trails.
The pickup also features a two-speed electric drive axle. In low-range four-wheel-drive mode, it triples the wheel-end gear reduction ratio. It has a factory-rated towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes and offers 10 driving modes for conditions such as mountains, sand, snow, mud and water crossings. Its off-road assistance system displays information including altitude, coordinates, vehicle angle and differential lock status, helping drivers monitor the vehicle on challenging routes.
The HUNTER K70 also provides power for outdoor work and activities. According to the company, the vehicle has a total energy reserve of 239 kWh when the fuel tank and battery are full. Its external power supply delivers up to 30 kW, allowing it to power equipment such as worksite lighting, repair tools, medical equipment and communications devices.
A panel inside the cargo bed provides dual 220V outlets with a 3.3 kW output for cooking, boiling water and other outdoor activities. The 30 kW and 3.3 kW power supplies can operate simultaneously, allowing users to power different types of equipment at the same time.
CHANGAN says the vehicle can support a four-vehicle field team at a fixed outdoor site for approximately six nights, based on estimated electricity use of about 10 kWh per night. The external power supply may be useful for outdoor work, emergency response and camping, reducing the need for a separate generator.
The HUNTER K70 has a cargo bed measuring 1,600 × 1,595 × 500 mm, with a volume of 1,276 liters. It can carry tools, emergency supplies and outdoor equipment. A multifunctional tailgate and folding step make loading and unloading easier, while a factory-applied protective coating helps protect the cargo bed from scratches and moisture-related corrosion.
The HUNTER K70 Feizhu Edition is designed for users who need additional living space during outdoor trips. It features a removable all-aluminum camper module with a 2 m × 1.7 m pull-out overhead bed and a 1.6 m × 0.6 m folding bed, providing sleeping space for three to four people. Other equipment includes a folding dining table, folding sink, outdoor awning, 70-liter fresh water tank and shower kit.
With the HUNTER K70, CHANGAN is expanding its extended-range pickup lineup with a model that combines long driving range, off-road capability, cargo capacity and external power supply. The vehicle is designed for a range of uses, from daily commuting and long-distance travel to outdoor work, emergency response and camping.
