SANY Truck and Pony.ai to Mass-Produce Gen-4 Autonomous Trucks in 2026

November 27,2025

Beijing, China – [Nov 27, 2025] /Chinatrucks.org/ — SANY Truck and Pony.ai announced today that their fourth-generation autonomous truck will enter mass production in 2026, with the first batch ready for commercial operation. This marks a key milestone in the large-scale adoption of autonomous freight in China.

The new truck combines the strengths of both companies. It is built on SANY Truck’s advanced electric platform and powered by a battery of more than 400 kWh, which can reduce around 60 tons of carbon emissions per year. The launch event was attended by Zhou Wanchun, Vice President of SANY Group and General Manager of SANY Truck Marketing, and Peng Jun, Founder and CEO of Pony.ai.

Safety First: Redundant Design

The truck features a fully redundant drive-by-wire chassis covering six critical systems: steering, braking, communication, power, computing, and sensors. It has passed rigorous testing, including electromagnetic compatibility and extreme temperature trials, raising the safety standard for autonomous freight transport.

Platooning Improves Efficiency and Cuts Costs

The truck supports a “1+4” platoon mode, where one lead truck is human-driven and four follow autonomously. Trials show this setup can reduce freight costs per kilometer by 29% and increase profits by 195%. This model provides a replicable solution to boost efficiency in smart logistics and supports the development of advanced port operations in China.

Strong Partnership Enables Mass Production

Since 2022, SANY Truck’s expertise in electric vehicle platforms has complemented Pony.ai’s leading autonomous driving technology. Together with China Foreign Transport, the companies launched the world’s first commercial application of 5G-enabled autonomous electric trucks. This “vehicle + technology + scenario” model lays a solid foundation for the planned production of around 1,000 trucks next year.

Mass Production to Transform Logistics

The mass production of the fourth-generation autonomous truck is expected to help the industry move from small-scale pilot projects to large-scale, unmanned commercial operations. With advanced technology, reduced carbon emissions, and improved operational efficiency, the project strengthens China’s global leadership in autonomous freight. It also provides scalable solutions for smart logistics, accelerating the industry’s digital, intelligent, and green transformation.
