The launch event in Johannesburg was attended by Wu Peng, Chinese Ambassador to South Africa; Qiu Zhongyi, Counselor; and Zhang Xiaofan, Vice President of FAW Group. Representatives from local industry associations, global partners, key customers, and international media were also present.

Positioned as a premium model for global markets, the J7 is developed in line with high-end European standards. It is designed to deliver efficiency, safety, and reliability, reinforcing FAW TRUCKS’ competitiveness in the global heavy-duty truck segment.
Tailored for South Africa’s long-haul transport conditions, the J7 features a high-efficiency powertrain, aerodynamic design, smart fuel management system, and dual large-capacity fuel tanks. These enhancements are aimed at improving operational efficiency and range while reducing overall operating costs. The vehicle is optimized around total cost of ownership (TCO), aligning with the practical needs of the local logistics sector.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Wu Peng noted that FAW has operated in South Africa for more than three decades, contributing to local development through industrial investment, job creation, and tax revenues. He also highlighted the company’s long-term support for education initiatives in the Coega Special Economic Zone as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts.

Wu added that a recently signed economic cooperation framework agreement between China and South Africa is expected to create new opportunities for bilateral cooperation. He called on FAW TRUCKS to leverage these opportunities to support South Africa’s industrialization and deepen automotive collaboration between the two countries.
Zhang Xiaofan said the J7 launch represents a key milestone in FAW’s global strategy and its “SPRINT 2030” initiative. He noted that South Africa has evolved into a strategic market for FAW TRUCKS, transitioning from an export-focused model to localized production and service operations. The company has ranked among the top players in the market for two consecutive years for two consecutive years, establishing a benchmark for its overseas business.
Looking ahead, Zhang said FAW TRUCKS will continue to increase investment in South Africa, enhance its product portfolio and service network, and support the modernization of the local logistics industry with high-end offerings such as the J7. The market is also expected to play a central role in achieving the company’s target of 180,000 overseas unit sales by 2030.
During the event, long-term users shared their operating experiences, highlighting the product quality and service capabilities of FAW TRUCKS and reinforcing the brand’s reputation in the South African market.

FAW TRUCKS also signed an order for 100 units with a key customer at the launch, signaling a strong start for the J7 in the country.

As FAW TRUCKS continues to expand its global footprint, the company aims to deepen cooperation with local partners, promote advanced transport solutions, and contribute to the development of the logistics sector and broader economic growth in South Africa.
