www.chinatrucks.com: Light commercial vehicles have always been short slab for FAW. And their production and sales volumes of light commercial vehicles were always less than  that of Foton, Dongfeng, JAC and JMC. A joint venture established by GM and FAW was founded in August 2009.

The cooperation benefits both. Sales of FAW light trucks are always less than that of Dongfeng, JAC and JMC, while there are quite a few light trucks models for GM, but there is nearly no model which fits Chinese markets. Although sales of Jiefang 501 is not big, but there is still some markets margins for a new product. And currently FAW and GM are developing next generation light trucks.
