Truck makers in India and China raised truck prices

April 10,2008

Tata Motors Ltd , India's top truck maker, has raised the price of trucks and buses by an average of 3.5 percent from April 1 to offset higher raw material costs, a company spokesman said on Monday.

"Prices of raw material such as steel have shot up and we had to pass some of that to customers," Debasis Ray said. He declined to comment on plans to raise prices of cars and sport utility vehicles.

At the same time, most China’s truck makers have raised prices of their trucks due to rising raw material costs. Truck makers such as Foton, FAW have raised their truck prices by 2% to 3% averagely.

It is learned that rising prices of steel and rubber have lead to the price raise in the auto industry.
