Dongfeng Motor Group Co, China's third-largest automaker, said its vehicle sales in May rose 6.44 percent from a year earlier, lagging a 34.02 percent gain of overall market. It moved 108,937 vehicles in May, it said in a statement over the weekend. Sales of passenger cars jumped 33.86 percent to 79,620 units, under performing a 46.83 percent gain in the country's car market. Sales of commercial vehicles fell 31.61 percent to 29,317units.

Dongfeng operates car manufacturing ventures with PSA Peugeot-Citroen (PEUP.PA) and Honda Motor (7267.T). It also makes cars and commercial vehicles with Nissan Motor.
