Driving China’s Commercial Vehicle Industry Toward Globalization
Based in northeast China, FAW Jiefang is accelerating its transformation from a domestic industry leader to a globally competitive brand.
“FAW Jiefang is the starting point of China’s automotive industry and the foundation of our company,” said Yu Changxin, General Manager of FAW Jiefang. “We are expanding our global footprint to build new growth engines for the future.”
FAW Jiefang’s global strategy goes far beyond exporting trucks—it aims to establish a complete industrial ecosystem overseas. The company is building partnerships with local suppliers, dealers, and financial institutions to create a full value chain for localized operations.
Rapid Growth at Home and Abroad
In the first half of 2025, FAW Jiefang held a 23.2% share of China’s medium and heavy truck market, ranking first nationwide. Despite a traditionally slow July season, both sales and market share achieved month-on-month and year-on-year growth.
The company’s overseas performance has been equally strong. Exports of medium and heavy trucks surged 58.3% year-on-year, with sales in Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Mexico more than doubling.
In August 2024, FAW Jiefang established FAW Jiefang International Automotive Co., Ltd., a dedicated subsidiary to manage its overseas operations—marking a major shift from exporting products to localized business development. The company has also launched a regional operations center in South Africa and plans to set up eight wholly owned subsidiaries in key markets such as Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, and Mexico, with a total investment of nearly RMB 500 million (about USD 70 million).
Today, FAW Jiefang’s international network spans 100 countries and regions, supported by 127 primary dealers, nearly 300 distributors, and 23 assembly plants across 14 countries.
Born Global: Products Designed for Every Market
FAW Jiefang develops its vehicles with a “Born Global” concept, ensuring each model meets global regulations, user habits, and environmental standards from the design stage.
A prime example is the J7 4×2 long-haul truck, now available in Mexico, Australia, and South Africa. It comes equipped with ADAS intelligent driving assistance and ECAS electronic suspension, and offers localized features such as roof lamps for Mexico and anti-fuel-theft systems for South Africa.
In Indonesia, FAW Jiefang introduced an innovative trial program that combines real-world testing with full data tracking—an industry-first approach that showcases the trucks’ superior performance in payload, fuel efficiency, and durability, breaking the long-standing dominance of Japanese brands.
To ensure customer satisfaction, FAW Jiefang has also strengthened its overseas service systems, dispatching Chinese technical experts for on-site support. In Vietnam, the company launched a “48-hour Repair Guarantee,” reducing average repair time by more than half compared to competitors.
Technology and Quality Over Price Wars
Facing global competition, Yu Changxin emphasized that FAW Jiefang will continue to focus on technology, quality, and long-term customer value, rather than price-based competition.
“Our trucks are built to make money for our customers,” Yu said. “By lowering total ownership costs, we help users achieve better returns.”
A Chinese Brand Earning Global Trust
FAW Jiefang’s steady overseas growth reflects its broader mission—to build a world-class commercial vehicle brand trusted by global users. With its strong R&D capability, innovative technology, and local partnerships, FAW Jiefang is driving China’s commercial vehicle industry into a new era of global recognition.
